The Berlin Uhr consists of a total of 24 lamps arranged in four rows, offering a distinctive visual display of time.

The upper two rows feature red lamps that indicate hours, with each lamp representing a specific increment. The topmost lamp, positioned above these two rows, is a circular yellow lamp that blinks every two seconds, serving as a visual rhythm indicator.

Within the upper two rows, each lamp in the top row signifies five hours, while each lamp in the subsequent lower hour row represents a single hour, enabling precise hour measurement.

The lower two rows utilize yellow lamps to represent minutes. The third row contains 11 lamps, and the fourth row has four lamps, allowing for the depiction of up to 59 minutes. The absence of a dedicated 60th minute indicator is consistent with the fact that a full hour is marked separately by the hour lamps.

The lamps illuminate sequentially from left to right and from bottom to top. When an entire row reaches its maximum illumination, all lamps in that row turn off, and an additional lamp lights up in the row above, creating a cyclical display that visually tracks time progression.
